I was playing around in the 2 series's build your own option. And the 228i comes in 13 colors, sort of. See that little exclamation point in the bottom right corner of some of those colors? Those are the colors not available with the M sport option. Wtf? Instead of the cool colors like Valencia Orange or Sparkling Brown Metallic you are stuck with a (sweet) blue, red, white, black, sliver, and another white. So then I had to see what the M235i had to offer in the color category.
And its the same options that are available with 228i M sport. I understand premium colors that you need to pay more for, just like other options in a car, but why have options only available on your cheaper models? That doesnt make sense to me, you wouldnt do it with any other option in a car.

id think it was to bolster resale value, but honestly I'm not sure the logic.

I'd only guess that if want these colors you'll have to wait for the M2. might be a way of helping people decide they want to move up.

People are boring. Hence the mostly boring color pallet.

I'd want a Valencia Orange M4 Coupe, but Yas Marina Blue will have to do:

This seems to be the wy for a lot of manufacturers. Intead of having MORE colors for the upper trims you get less. Like the Dodge Caliber.
The best color it came in was called Surf Blue Pearlcoat. Guess what wasn't one of only four colors available on the SRT4.

I would understand if it was that way all around but its not. If I got a base 228i I could get it in orange or brown. Once I add that M sport option I can no longer get those colors, thats what doesnt make sense to me.

I'm pretty sure BMW decision makers at this point are insane.

So to be clear, they can make twelve different derivatives of each model, and invent vehicles for niches that probably don't exist, but they can't let a gearhead get a sport package and the color they want?
Great, thanks BMW. Now about that random number generator you're using to define model numbers...

Go sport instead of m-sport if you want those colors. Still get nice seats, suspension, and steering wheel.
Wait does BMW still offer a sport and M-sport? I haven't been on the configurator in a while.

It used to be that if you went to the dealer and were willing to custom order the car, you could pay extra and get any color combination you wanted. A friend bought a 7-series in dark blue with black interior, which for some reason was not a standard offering at the time. Had to pay extra for the privilege, of course.

You're trying to make sense of BMW'S line up. You might as well quit.

I happen to like cars that aren't beige.
It's British Racing Green, not black

I guess none of you know about BMWs "Individual" program

I thought of that later in the comments, can't you custom-order (for a fee) the color combo you want, etc.?

I don't understand why automakers do this, same thing happens with the FiST and FoST, the titanium trim levels have better colours to choose from. Madness I tell you, MADNESS.

For the longest time, the Sonic RS wasn't available in blue. Which, frankly, was the biggest oversight imaginable. The marketing sells itself. I mean, when people under the age of 30 think of sonic......No one says "Oh yeah, that little burnt orange hedgehog!". BLUE STREAK MOTHERFUCKERS!
